Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Charles Hervy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Maison Gonda! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Daniel Franklin and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gonda fails with the takedown and Gonda takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. The fight stays on the outside here - Gonda looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hervy drops Gonda with a left right combo! Hervy follows him down to the ground into side control.
Gonda is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hervy postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've been hearing good reports from Hervy's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Hervy throws an elbow but Gonda slips to the side and avoids it well. Gonda avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hervy. You can see the frustration on Gonda's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Hervy in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gonda tries to improve position but can't. Sloppy strikes there by Hervy. Hervy content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Hervy creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gonda sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. You can see the frustration on Gonda's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Hervy throwing shots but missing, from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Hervy in side control, throwing shots but Gonda defends. Hervy working away. Gonda parries the strikes from Hervy easily there. Hervy is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gonda to escape.
Hervy fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Hervy throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Gonda works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Hervy throwing shots but Gonda is blocking nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hervy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Gonda trying to control here.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Gonda lands with a hook. Hervy tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Hervy fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Gonda checks it well. Gonda doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Hervy to counter with a crisp jab. Gonda closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hervy circles away. Charles Hervy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maison Gonda. Hervy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gonda pinned against the cage. Gonda gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Hervy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gonda tries to clinch but Hervy is having none of it. Gonda tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Hervy counters with a left and a right that stings Gonda. Hervy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gonda tries to clinch up and Hervy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Gonda lands with a kick to the temple. Hervy shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gonda misses with a head kick.
Hervy seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Charles Hervy dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Gonda tries to clinch but fails miserably and Hervy counters with a nice uppercut. Hervy fails to land the takedown. Charles Hervy is winning the standup battle so far. Gonda doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hervy counters with a straight that turns Gonda's legs to rubber! Hervy pushes forward with more strikes and Gonda goes down, battered and bloody! That's a wrap folks!
