Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kron Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcelo Santiago! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva scores with a jab to the jaw. Silva scores with a jab. Silva has been working on his boxing with his coaches at HELLCADEMY (Ground Training) in the buildup to the fight. Silva swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Santiago drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Silva defends it well. Silva works Santiago's body with a nice hook. A combination from Santiago does no damage. Silva listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Santiago shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Silva swings for the body but Santiago moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva throws a body punch but Santiago moves out of range. Kron Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Santiago moves away from the strike by Silva. Santiago gets caught napping as Silva dives in and scores a takedown. Santiago manages to retain guard. Silva stands and throws Santiago's legs to the side, diving into side control. Silva working the head and body with strikes. Santiago really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Silva is working Santiago over with some ground and pound from side control. Silva lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Silva is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Santiago has escaped the position, nice work there. Santiago seems a little lost for a moment, as Silva dominates the positioning.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Santiago to see if he's OK. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Santiago takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Silva is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Santiago looks calm but he's in trouble here. Silva gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Santiago is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Silva lets go of the hold and Santiago can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kron Silva! After the fight, Kron Silva was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
