Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gert Hook! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kiro Kirov! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kirov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Kirov fails with a takedown attempt. Kirov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Hook tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Kirov manages to circle out of the way. Gert Hook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kiro Kirov. Hook keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Hook gets a double leg takedown into Kirov's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hook stays in close to Kirov's body and controls the position. Hook trying to control the position from guard on top but Kirov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hook has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hook controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kirov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hook is one step ahead there. Hook wants to pass the guard but Kirov is keeping the position. Hook wants to control from the top but Kirov keeps moving. Hook is fighting to break Kirov's control of his arms but Kirov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Hook working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kirov's head. Hook could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Kirov has control of Hook's left arm, preventing Hook from doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hook won't allow Kirov to get back to his feet. Kirov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hook gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hook decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Kirov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hook's waist but Hook gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kirov off to one side. Kirov dives in for a single leg takedown but Hook sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Hook shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kirov napping and manages to drive through into side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kirov sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Hook is looking for a kimura but Kirov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hook to get the leverage. Kirov taking some punishment here, with Hook in his half guard. Kirov trying to control from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kirov is positioning himself well to prevent Hook advancing to mount. Kirov blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hook. Kirov is controlling Hook's trapped leg to prevent Hook from advancing to side control. Hook tries to stand and escape but Kirov actually recovers to full guard. Hook scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hook stands up from guard. Let's bang! Kiro Kirov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A momentary lapse in concentration from Kirov enables Hook to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kirov manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Hook postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kirov lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Kirov trying to control but Hook is working from the bottom. Kirov wanted to stand there but Hook had control of the position. Hook avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hook keeping moving, preventing Kirov from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gert Hook dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Kirov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hook tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kirov is in Hook's guard. Hook has Kirov pulled in close to control his posture. Hook trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Kirov throwing strikes from guard but Hook blocks nicely. Hook wants to control but Kirov passes easily into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kirov missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hook controlling the position well. Kirov is looking for a kimura here.
Kirov tries to pass to full mount but Hook defends it. Kiro Kirov has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Kirov is thwarting Hook's attempts to control the position. Hook keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Hook is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kirov with the ground and pound from mount.
It looks like Gert Hook has been cut. Kirov pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Gert Hook's cut is getting worse. Kirov raining down hammerfists from mount.
Gert Hook's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Hook tries to lock up and control but Kirov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Kirov looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Hook covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kiro Kirov!
