PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Distant Thunder (ranked 6242 p4p, 228 weight class) and Twea King (ranked 6340 p4p, 231 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Distant Thunder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Twea King!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thunder tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Thunder.
Thunder sets himself, and King steps forward looking for the clinch! Thunder avoids it this time.

King takes the fight into the clinch.
Thunder jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as King walks away with a smile on his face. Thunder gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Thunder misses with a takedown attempt - King sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Distant Thunder. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Thunder clinches up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Thunder walks away with a smile on his face. King gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

King drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Thunder has a closed guard, preventing King from standing up.
King trying to control but Thunder is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thunder looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
King would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

King is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thunder is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thunder has escaped and now he's on top!


King is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thunder is aware though and is defending well.
Thunder in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
King looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thunder is one step ahead there.
Thunder slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
King trying to keep a closed guard but Thunder is proving a slippery customer.

Thunder trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
King wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Thunder shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Thunder keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

King closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - King lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Thunder is looking to stand back up but King counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Thunder.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Thunder is positioning himself well to prevent King advancing to mount.
Thunder trying to control from the bottom.
King wants to stand up but Thunder is controlling the position.
Thunder tries to roll over but King keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thunder keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Thunder on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Thunder tries to get out of the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King wants to stand but Thunder has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Twea King dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Thunder misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Thunder closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Thunder pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Thunder throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
King wants to counter with a clinch but Thunder pushes him away.
Thunder looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Distant Thunder. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head kick misses from King.

King darts in and clinches Thunder up against the cage.
Thunder digs a right hand into King's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on King's gas tank.
Thunder jumps guard but King turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A head punch blocked on the inside by King.
Thunder tries to pull guard but King won't allow it.

King breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
King avoids the body shot from Thunder.

King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

King closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Thunder can't do much from the bottom here.
Thunder is trying to get back to half guard.
King remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

King is trying to work for a kimura but Thunder is defending well.
King trying to mount his opponent but Thunder defends it.
King prevents Thunder from improving his position.
Thunder flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Thunder looks like he's trying to stand up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Thunder is trying to maintain the position but King is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
King will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Thunder throws a push kick but King slaps the foot to one side.
King keeps the fight on the outside.

Thunder clinches with his opponent.
King is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Thunder pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Thunder effectively controlling the action here.
Thunder is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. King is defending well for now.

Thunder tries to pull guard but King holds him up against the cage and eventually Thunder drops back down to his feet.

King jumps into guard, dragging Thunder to the mat.
King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Thunder working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Twea King has got the better of the ground game so far.
Thunder trying to control but King is working from the bottom.

Thunder postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Twea King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Thunder's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


King leaves Thunder with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
King changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Thunder clinches.
King has Thunder pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Thunder manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Thunder effectively controlling the action here.

King pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Thunder scores with a one two! King had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thunder is looking to clinch.
Thunder closes this distance looking for a takedown but King circles away.
King steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Thunder.
King misses with a head kick.
Thunder avoids the head kick by King.
Thunder tries to counter by moving into the clinch but King manages to circle out of the way.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Thunder slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Thunder clinches up with King and pushes him back against the cage.
Thunder wants to break the clinch but can't.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by King as Thunder tries to tie him up.

King escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Distant Thunder has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Twea King is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

King moves into the clinch.

I would just about give that final round to Twea King.
I've got King winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
