Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, George Thompson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Paul David!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David tries to close the distance and clinch up but Thompson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
David has his takedown stuffed

and Thompson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
David stops a takedown attempt from Thompson.
A nice glancing elbow lands by David.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Good body shot from David.
Thompson stalling the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
David trying to stall but Thompson improves his position.
A frustrated look appears on Thompson's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Thompson gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Thompson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thompson prevents David from improving his position.
David looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

David is defending against the submission attempts here by Thompson.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
David is looking for a sweep. Thompson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Thompson wants to stand up but David is controlling the position.
Thompson slips a nice elbow through David's hands, connecting with David's forehead.
David has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thompson is working away from the top position though.
Thompson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Thompson fails to land the takedown.
David doesn't manage to clinch there - Thompson circles away.
David looks to clinch

and Thompson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Thompson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Thompson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

David has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thompson is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Thompson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

David wants to clinch up but Thompson keeps it at a distance.

David keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Thompson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Thompson stalling.

Thompson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks David with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Thompson is looking to advance position but David won't allow it.
Thompson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Thompson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that David can do to turn this around?
David is trying to stand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
George Thompson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
David shoots in for a takedown but Thompson shows good takedown defense.
Thompson throwing a counter right hand but David manages to avoid it.
David throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Thompson's waist but Thompson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing David off to one side.
David is breathing heavily.
Thompson misses with a takedown
and David counters with a big head kick but Thompson shrugs it off.

Thompson gets the takedown into side control.

Thompson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
David is letting Thompson control him for a moment.
Thompson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear David down.
George Thompson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Thompson controls the position.

Thompson decides to stand back up.
David fails with the takedown.
George Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul David.
David looks to land a combination. Thompson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
David wants to clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Thompson moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thompson looking to score a takedown here. David is defending well but Thompson drives through and ends up in David's guard.
David is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Thompson dives into side control.

Thompson lands a decent elbow from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thompson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Thompson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by David or perhaps it was just good defense by Thompson, which made it look bad.
Thompson is looking to counter the offense by David and move into the clinch.
Thompson needs to keep his hands up - David had a free shot at his head there.
David looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thompson is fending him off so far but David persists. Nope, Thompson circles away and we're back to standing.
David takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Thompson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. David did well to prevent Thompson getting side control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Thompson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks David with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Thompson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so David is just riding it out for now. Thompson eventually gives up the hold.

Thompson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
David tries to kick Thompson off but Thompson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Thompson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
David has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thompson is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thompson seems to be working for a kimura but David defends the submission attempt.
Thompson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for David!
David is bucking up trying to escape but Thompson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Thompson tries to take David's back but instead David uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Thompson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Thompson is nestled in close to David, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Thompson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
David throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Thompson manages to pass to side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
George Thompson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Thompson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
