Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Harris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Rogers! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harris tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rogers swats him away and circles back towards the center. Harris clinches. Harris is looking to break free of the clinch but Rogers has double underhooks. Harris wants a takedown but no success here.
Harris looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Rogers jumps guard but Harris turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Harris has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rogers is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Harris is pressed up against the cage. Rogers has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Harris down to the mat. Harris avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Harris shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rogers as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him. Harris swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Rogers counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Rogers stands and throws Harris's legs to the side, diving into side control. Harris gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Rogers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Harris is looking to escape. Harris swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Rogers fails to take his opponent's back. Harris knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rogers on the ground. Rogers wants to finish this one by submission but Harris is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rogers. Rogers is looking to work his way around to Harris's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Rogers trying to control but Harris is having none of it. Rogers jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Harris manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rogers works to advance to full mount. Harris defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Rogers takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Rogers sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Harris taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Steve Rogers! Our winner, Steve Rogers, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
