PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ethan Edwards (ranked 4773 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuta Kubo (ranked 4921 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ethan Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Yuta Kubo!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Kubo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Edwards has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Kubo is on him like a limpet, forcing Edwards back against the cage.
Kubo gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Edwards.

Kubo breaks from the clinch.

Edwards has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kubo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kubo is trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edwards lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Edwards is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Edwards gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Edwards gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Edwards apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Kubo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Kubo counters with a thumping low kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ethan Edwards. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Edwards shoots in but no luck this time.
Kubo dives in and grabs Edwards's left leg, looking for a takedown. Edwards pushes down on Kubo's head and hops out.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Edwards.

Edwards shoots in and bounces Kubo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Kubo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Edwards stops Kubo from standing up.

Kubo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Edwards manages to get himself to full guard.

Edwards wants to sweep here but Kubo controlling him for the moment.
Edwards pulls Kubo in close to his closed guard and prevents Kubo from doing any damage or advancing position.
Edwards has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Edwards shoots in for a takedown but Kubo shows good takedown defense.

Kubo is looking to reverse the position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Edwards tries to score with some ground and pound. Kubo controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Edwards manages to get to full guard.
Edwards wants to sweep here but Kubo controlling him for the moment.
Edwards on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Edwards tries to get out of the position.

Edwards manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kubo manages to get himself to full guard.

Edwards stays in close to Kubo's body and controls the position.

Kubo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kubo wants to stand up but Edwards is controlling him.
Edwards is looking to work some ground and pound but Kubo has wrist control.

Edwards wants to control from the top but Kubo keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Edwards looks up at the clock and then as Kubo takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Edwards smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Edwards closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kubo to the mat! Kubo manages to get full guard.
Kubo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Edwards dives into side control.

Edwards cracks Kubo with a big right hand but Kubo just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Kubo is looking to reverse the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Edwards wants to control but Kubo is keeping him busy.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Edwards, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
