And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Birger Nielsen!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rogers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nielsen sprawls well initially but Rogers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rogers seems to be working for a kimura but Nielsen defends the submission attempt.

Rogers seems to be looking for submissions.
Rogers stops Nielsen from getting back to his feet.
Nielsen is refusing to be controlled, as Rogers sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nielsen wants to control but Rogers is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Nielsen is controlling Rogers's position as best he can from this difficult position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rogers feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rogers passes Nielsen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Rogers is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nielsen pulls his head out easily.

Nielsen tries to close the distance and clinch but Rogers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rogers jumps guard but Nielsen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Nielsen is trying to control the position but Rogers postures up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nielsen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rogers has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Rogers is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Nielsen is defending well though. Rogers let's go of the attempt for now.

Rogers is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Nielsen has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Nielsen manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rogers's guard. Nice work there by Nielsen.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rogers holds on and takes a little breather.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Steve Rogers.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rogers, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
