PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jari Bull (ranked 1021 p4p, 169 weight class) and Kevin Whitfield (ranked 1972 p4p, 301 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jari Bull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Whitfield!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitfield misses with a low kick.
Bull was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Bull punishes Whitfield's body with a nice straight punch.

and Bull cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Kevin Whitfield has been cut.
Bull scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Bull fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Whitfield.

Whitfield displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bull throws out the jab.
Whitfield has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Bull.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Whitfield will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Whitfield looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bull with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bull gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Whitfield postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Whitfield prevents Bull from getting back to his feet.

Whitfield got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bull has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Whitfield has managed to get both his arms back between Bull's legs - danger averted.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Whitfield is in close to Bull's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jari Bull.
I think Whitfield has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
