Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sergey Chernishev (ranked 1575 p4p, 189 weight class) and Suren Nazarethyan (ranked 2109 p4p, 231 weight class). Chernishev comes to the cage accompanied by MC Hovanskiy - Father in the building. The crowd seem to be enjoying Nazarethyan's choice of entrance music: Amerika. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergey Chernishev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
47 - 40 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Suren Nazarethyan! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nazarethyan scores with a push kick. Chernishev throws a lazy right hand but Nazarethyan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Nazarethyan lands with a nice body kick. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chernishev is defended easily by Nazarethyan. Nazarethyan lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Chernishev looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Nazarethyan drops his hands momentarily and Chernishev takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Nazarethyan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Chernishev looks to score with a jab to the body but Nazarethyan is just out of range. A nice side step and Nazarethyan releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Nazarethyan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Chernishev. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chernishev blocks a jab. Chernishev uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nazarethyan. Suren Nazarethyan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nazarethyan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Chernishev avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Nazarethyan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Nazarethyan lands with a straight right. Chernishev didn't see that one coming. Chernishev shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Chernishev throws a jab when Nazarethyan was well out of range. Chernishev bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Nazarethyan's head. Chernishev steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Nazarethyan. That one must have hurt. This has been an exciting period of action! Chernishev throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Chernishev lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. A left lands for Chernishev. Chernishev changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nazarethyan looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Chernishev creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nazarethyan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Nazarethyan tries to escape but Chernishev is in control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chernishev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nazarethyan keeps working. The ground and pound from Chernishev seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Chernishev working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Chernishev taking a breather here. Nazarethyan is not content to let Chernishev control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chernishev throws an elbow but Nazarethyan slips to the side and avoids it well. Chernishev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Chernishev working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Nazarethyan is not content to let Chernishev control the position. Nazarethyan tries to bench press Chernishev off him but Chernishev keeps the position. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Nazarethyan being controlled for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nazarethyan lands with a hook. Chernishev tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Chernishev throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Chernishev connects with a leg kick. Nazarethyan looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Chernishev tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Chernishev misses with a jab, cross combination.
A little jabbing left from Nazarethyan on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Chernishev's corner calls for a 1-2. Chernishev obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Chernishev scores with a body shot.

Nazarethyan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Chernishev fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Nazarethyan on the side of the head. Nazarethyan throws a hook to the side of Chernishev's head but Chernishev sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Chernishev throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Nazarethyan counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Nazarethyan throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Nazarethyan staying out of range there. Chernishev scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Some bone on bone action there as Chernishev checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Chernishev lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Nazarethyan stuns Chernishev with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Chernishev closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Chernishev is pressing down on Nazarethyan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nazarethyan is holding on for now. Chernishev not landing any meaningful shots this time. Chernishev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nazarethyan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chernishev in particular looking to stall. Nazarethyan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Chernishev throws a big right hand that misses. Chernishev throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nazarethyan works some decent striking defense from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Chernishev connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nazarethyan. Nazarethyan circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Chernishev throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Nazarethyan counters with a slapping leg kick.
