Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eddie Gomez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Rowler! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rowler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Rowler throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gomez's waist but Gomez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rowler off to one side. Gomez shoots and misses and Rowler cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Gomez drives through with a takedown into guard. Gomez slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Gomez looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Gomez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gomez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rowler is looking to regain half guard here but Gomez keeps moving and retains side control. Gomez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rowler has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gomez but great work by Rowler. Gomez is trying to improve his position. Gomez regains half guard. Rowler wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Gomez uses the opportunity to regain full guard. Rowler slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gomez pushes a forearm under Rowler's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rowler is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
