Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Doyle Lyons! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yazu Chekepara! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Lyons gets in close and instigates a clinch. Chekepara lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Chekepara is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Chekepara stops Lyons from getting back to his feet.
Chekepara has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Lyons is trying desperately to improve position. Chekepara looking for a guillotine from mount but Lyons is having none of it. Chekepara trying to control but he's not successful this time. Chekepara sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Chekepara takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Chekepara trying to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lyons is trying to stand back up. Lyons tries to escape but Chekepara has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Chekepara biding his time, controlling Lyons. Chekepara tries to get the hooks in deep but Lyons pushed the leg off. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lyons tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Lyons trying desperately to get to his feet.
Chekepara fails to take his opponent's back. Lyons is squirming around, avoiding Chekepara's attempts to control the action. Lyons tries to reverse the position but Chekepara maintains control. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chekepara is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Lyons is in real trouble.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chekepara just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Lyons is trying to get back to his feet but Chekepara has full control of the position and if anything, Lyons has just worked his way into a worse spot. Lyons trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Lyons really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Lyons is trying to get to his feet but he's left his neck exposed and Chekepara manages to sink in a rear naked choke! Great counter grappling by Chekepara!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Yazu Chekepara! Yazu Chekepara was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
