Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chenchen Li! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Justin Wyderko! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Dirk Anderson and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wyderko shoots in looking for a takedown but Li manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wyderko's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. No luck for Wyderko with that takedown attempt. Li fails with a takedown attempt. Wyderko is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. No luck for Li with that takedown attempt. Wyderko throws a counter combo. Wyderko is looking to take this fight into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wyderko stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chenchen Li. That's going to take a lot out of him. Li closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Li gets control of Wyderko's arms and successfully pulls guard. Li will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wyderko is fighting to break Li's control of his arms but Li is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wyderko looking to pass the guard. Li has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Wyderko has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Li lands an uppercut. Li has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wyderko uses from the top position. Li looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wyderko is one step ahead there. Li had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wyderko defends it easily. Li is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wyderko is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Li is trying to keep Wyderko in close.
Wyderko is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Wyderko throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Wyderko is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Li seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Li has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Wyderko has passed into side control.
Wyderko is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Li will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Li sneaks back into half guard. Li is trying to get back to full guard. Li manages to get to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Li pushes a forearm under Wyderko's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Wyderko is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
