Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mee Vattalles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tom McGettigan! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGettigan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vattalles, pushing him back against the cage. McGettigan misses with a hook to the ribs.
A head punch on the inside from McGettigan fails to land. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for McGettigan. Vattalles tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
McGettigan has a couple of punches blocked by Vattalles.
Vattalles jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McGettigan walks away with a smile on his face. Vattalles gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. McGettigan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vattalles. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mee Vattalles. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice straight punches there by Vattalles. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Vattalles. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vattalles changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McGettigan looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Vattalles is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McGettigan has escaped the position, nice work there. Vattalles wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McGettigan, who protects the arm well.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGettigan is not content to let Vattalles control the position. We've been hearing good reports from Vattalles's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Vattalles throws an elbow but McGettigan slips to the side and avoids it well. McGettigan is looking for a sweep. Vattalles is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McGettigan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Vattalles misses with the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Vattalles in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Vattalles content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Vattalles wants to take a breather but McGettigan is having none of it. Vattalles passes the guard and advances to mount! Vattalles throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGettigan can do anything to dispel that myth. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Vattalles working for a submission but McGettigan is keeping him at bay. Vattalles postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. McGettigan looks a forlorn figure.

McGettigan throws a lazy right hand but Vattalles sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. McGettigan throws a jab but it's blocked by Vattalles. McGettigan tries to clinch there but Vattalles circles away.
A swing and a miss from McGettigan. Vattalles swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Vattalles tries for a takedown but McGettigan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Vattalles clinches up with McGettigan and pushes him back against the cage. McGettigan stops a takedown attempt from Vattalles.
McGettigan misses with a hook from the clinch. A short uppercut from McGettigan. McGettigan tries to work over Vattalles's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vattalles blocks an uppercut.

Vattalles decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vattalles is nestled in close to McGettigan, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. McGettigan has hold of Vattalles's hands but Vattalles slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Vattalles is trying to control the action in half guard but McGettigan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vattalles is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
McGettigan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. McGettigan is staying active underneath Vattalles, who seems content to just control the action from this position. McGettigan wants to get back to his feet. Vattalles is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McGettigan defends it well. McGettigan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vattalles. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. McGettigan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGettigan won't allow Vattalles to pass to mount. Vattalles has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. McGettigan is defending against the submission attempts here by Vattalles.
Vattalles is looking to stall here but McGettigan recovers full guard. Vattalles pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McGettigan is keeping the position for now. Vattalles distracts McGettigan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Mee Vattalles overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

It's a sloppy attempt though and Vattalles jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. McGettigan throws a hook but Vattalles avoids it easily. McGettigan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vattalles.
Vattalles goes for a double leg but McGettigan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McGettigan continues to drive forward. Vattalles tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McGettigan paws at him with a jab and circles away. McGettigan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGettigan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vattalles. McGettigan scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Vattalles clinches up with McGettigan and pushes him back against the cage. McGettigan struggles to land a body shot inside as Vattalles controls his hands.

Vattalles gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Vattalles throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Mee Vattalles will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Vattalles pushes down on McGettigan's leg and manages to get into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vattalles is looking to take a break and control but McGettigan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight! Mee Vattalles showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vattalles, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mee Vattalles decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
