Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rex Ruger (ranked 1261 p4p, 42 weight class) and Adriano Silva (ranked 1696 p4p, 68 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Ruger! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adriano Silva! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva throws a front kick aimed at Ruger's knee but Ruger avoids it well. Nice takedown defense from Silva. No joy for Ruger on that attempt. Silva displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ruger. Silva misses with a wild combination.
A big left from Silva misses. Ruger feints and as Silva raises his hands in defense, Ruger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Silva looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Silva wants to get back to his feet but Ruger is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ruger scoring with some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruger connects with a couple of short punches. Silva is trying to keep Ruger in close.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ruger working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Ruger has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ruger is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Silva is trying to control the position but Ruger postures up. Ruger is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Ruger is working Silva over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Ruger is in close to Silva's body, working some short punches and elbows. Ruger throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ruger trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ruger working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva controls Ruger momentarily but Ruger frees himself. Silva is adopting a defensive guard. Ruger throws an elbow that misses. Silva uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ruger's guard. Nice move by Silva! Ruger pulls Silva in close to prevent any damage. Silva content to stall in guard here. Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruger swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruger trying to control the position here. Silva throwing strikes from guard but Ruger blocks nicely. Silva preventing the sweep. Ruger has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Silva won't allow Ruger to sweep him here. Ruger pulls Silva in close to prevent any damage.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Ruger takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Ruger walks into a stiff left hand from Silva. Ruger closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Ruger getting side control. Silva makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Ruger fails with a takedown attempt. Silva with the counter takedown but Ruger avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Ruger. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ruger looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Silva! Silva sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva tests Ruger's chin there with a solid looking shot. Ruger feints and then cracks Silva's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Silva down. Ruger closes the distance and clinches up with Silva, looking for a takedown. Ruger pushes Silva against the cage but Silva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Ruger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Ruger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Ruger fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Silva to the ground. Ruger is now in Silva's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ruger being controlled here momentarily. Silva wants to sweep here but Ruger controlling him for the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruger postures up.
Ruger in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Silva manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ruger manages to get himself to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruger utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Silva with a flurry of punches that miss. Silva tries to stand but Ruger is controlling from the bottom. Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruger swivels though and keeps the full guard. Ruger keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully. Silva being controlled here momentarily. Rex Ruger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Silva prevents Ruger from getting back to his feet. Silva is fighting to break Ruger's control of his arms but Ruger is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Silva misses with a lunging right hand
and Ruger counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ruger. Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ruger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ruger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Silva is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Silva wants to sweep here but Ruger controlling him for the moment. Ruger working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Ruger missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Ruger breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Silva is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ruger. Ruger feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Silvas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Silva shoots in but no luck this time. Ruger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Silva swivels and escapes. Silva changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Ruger. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva takes a shot right to the bread basket. Ruger misses with a takedown and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Ruger seems keen to control Silva's posture. Silva gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ruger lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Ruger shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Silva as he avoids it easily. Silva changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Adriano Silva seems to be getting the better of the standup. Ruger throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Rex Ruger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ruger avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Ruger takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Silva throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Silva connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ruger momentarily.
Ruger throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Ruger shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side. Silva feints the counter takedown. Ruger stuffs the takedown attempt from Silva. Silva gets slowly back to his feet. Ruger looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Silva is fending him off so far but Ruger persists. Nope, Silva circles away and we're back to standing. Silva feints the counter takedown. Ruger needs to keep his hands up - Silva had a free shot at his head there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Adriano Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Ruger shoots in and drives through. Silva sprawls well. Silva throws a nice looking combination but Ruger bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Ruger moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Silva is looking to score with low kicks. Silva displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ruger. Ruger shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Ruger. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice sprawl there from Silva as Ruger shoots in. Silva throws out a powerful jab. Ruger looks for a takedown but Silva sprawls well. Silva is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruger fails with a takedown attempt. Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Silva lands with a nice combination. Silva seems keen to control Ruger's posture. Ruger throws a big elbow that misses. Silva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Ruger trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Silva displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ruger. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Silva swings away with a body shot that misses
so Ruger counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Silva has been the more effective fighter overall so far. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ruger won't allow Silva to sweep him here. Silva seems keen to control Ruger's posture. The fighters circling - Ruger throws out the jab but it was never going to land. It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over. A punch combination from Silva misses. Ruger throws a shot to the body.
Ruger shoots in but Silva avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ruger needs to keep his hands up - Silva had a free shot at his head there. Horrible takedown attempt by Ruger or perhaps it was just good defense by Silva, which made it look bad. Silva scores with a nice right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Ruger drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Silva bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ruger is defended easily by Silva. Silva ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Silva drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Ruger defends it well. Silva misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ruger.
Silva cracks the inside of Ruger's front leg. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ruger. Silva tries to bum rush Ruger with a series of wild strikes but Ruger uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruger motions for Silva to come forward. Ruger throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Ruger darts in looking for a takedown but Silva gets double underhooks and turns Ruger into the cage. Silva changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Silva lands a jab to the nose. Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ruger was well out of range. Poor timing from Silva. Silva misses with an uppercut. Ruger shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Ruger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Adriano Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Nice sprawl there from Silva as Ruger shoots in. Silva misses with an attempted mid kick.
Ruger drops down looking for a counter takedown but Silva sprawls and moves away. Ruger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ruger gets slowly back to his feet. The crowd cheers as Silva lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ruger doesn't seem phased though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruger takes one to the chin there. Silva displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ruger. Ruger takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Ruger tries for a takedown but Silva sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Silva stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silva wants it to stay on the feet. Silva misses with the combination.

This has been an exciting period of action! Silva's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Silva duly obliges. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters circle momentarily. Ruger darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Silva slips a jab and a cross from Ruger.
Ruger shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Silva trying to hold on to Ruger's head to control him but Ruger postures up.
Silva manages to escape and get back to his feet! Silva looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Silva misses the jab. Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ruger. Ruger shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ruger was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruger working the ground and pound. Silva can't do much from the bottom here. Silva tries to improve position but can't. Ruger is trying to ground and pound but Silva uses the momentary lack of control by Ruger to regain half guard. Silva is not content to let Ruger control the position. Silva tries to get to full guard but Ruger has control of the leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Silva wants to control but Ruger is keeping busy and won't allow it. Ruger thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head. Silva wants to get back to full guard. Silva taking some punishment here, with Ruger in his half guard. Silva avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ruger. Ruger lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruger has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Ruger lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. The referee warns Silva that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Silva is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Ruger lands a nice shot to the head. Ruger in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Silva is rocked! Silva reaches up and holds on to Ruger to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruger is in the full mount, landing strikes. Silva is still in real trouble! Can Ruger finish him? Ruger unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Silva wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Ruger celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
