Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Paul David! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luis Alberto Barros Gutierrrez! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! David fails with an attempt to clinch.
Barros Gutierrrez takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Barros Gutierrrez has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Barros Gutierrrez looks winded! David closes the distance looking to clinch and Barros Gutierrrez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Barros Gutierrrez. David has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Barros Gutierrrez has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Barros Gutierrrez goes for a takedown in the clinch but David prevents it.
Barros Gutierrrez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by David after a bit of a struggle. David creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Barros Gutierrrez's defenses.
It looks like Luis Alberto Barros Gutierrrez has been cut. Barros Gutierrrez is looking for a takedown. Paul David has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Alberto Barros Gutierrrez. David escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
David tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barros Gutierrrez swats him away and circles back towards the center. Barros Gutierrrez feints the counter takedown. Barros Gutierrrez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by David. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Barros Gutierrrez keeps the fight on the outside. David throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Barros Gutierrrez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but David defends it well. David throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. David tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barros Gutierrrez swats him away and circles back towards the center. David moves in looking to clinch but Barros Gutierrrez pushes him off. David misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
David definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. David closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. David wants to break the clinch but can't.

David tries to stall but Barros Gutierrrez uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. David trying to control the position but instead, Barros Gutierrrez has worked for underhooks and has pushed David into the cage. David can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight. David has had enough of the clinch but Barros Gutierrrez keeps him there for the moment. David manages to break the clinch.

Barros Gutierrrez is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! David wants to stand but Barros Gutierrrez is controlling his posture from full guard. Barros Gutierrrez is still in real trouble! Can David finish him?

David tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barros Gutierrrez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Barros Gutierrrez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but David defends it well. David has taken the fight to the clinch.

David tries to close the distance and clinch but Barros Gutierrrez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Barros Gutierrrez changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. David gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A battle for position here, against the cage. Barros Gutierrrez can't get the takedown.
