PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Avila Alvarez (ranked 8014 p4p, 583 weight class) and Paha Hemmo (ranked 7059 p4p, 537 weight class). Alvarez comes to the cage accompanied by Barbarian by The Darkness. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 26 - 2, fighting out of London, Avila Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Paha Hemmo!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hemmo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Alvarez.
Alvarez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Alvarez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
As Hemmo tries to get set, Alvarez tries to push him back and clinch up but Hemmo manages to avoid the attempt.
Avila Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alvarez lands a jab to Hemmo's midsection.
A head kick from Alvarez lands but Hemmo takes it in his stride.


It looks like Paha Hemmo has been cut.
Hemmo scores with a jab to the body.
Hemmo circles away from the clinch attempt.

Hemmo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alvarez.
Hemmo uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Hemmo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alvarez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hemmo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hemmo stands up and waves to Alvarez to follow him.
Alvarez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hemmo scores with a crisp jab that stopped Alvarez in his tracks.
Alvarez goes for a double leg but Hemmo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hemmo continues to drive forward.

Hemmo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Alvarez's head backwards.
Paha Hemmo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A looping hook to the body misses from Hemmo. Alvarez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Alvarez shoots for a double leg takedown but Hemmo sprawls well. He's pushed Alvarez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hemmo moves into range and clinches up with Alvarez.
Hemmo tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Alvarez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hemmo swings wildly with an uppercut but Alvarez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hemmo misses with a punch on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hemmo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hemmo wants it to stay on the feet.

Alvarez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hemmo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Alvarez tries to score with some ground and pound. Hemmo controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Alvarez misses with the ground and pound.
Hemmo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alvarez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Alvarez throws a strike but Hemmo manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Alvarez tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paha Hemmo!
A less than humble Paha Hemmo misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
Avila Alvarez was interviewed post fight and said 'I'm so pissed, man. I trained so hard for this camp too.'.
