PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Castillo (ranked 2477 p4p, 102 weight class) and Tetsuya Shiroo (ranked 2706 p4p, 113 weight class). Shiroo has chosen The Gazette / Filth In The Beauty as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tetsuya Shiroo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shiroo dodges the punch combination from Castillo.
Castillo swings for the body but Shiroo moves out of range.
Shiroo wants to clinch.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Castillo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shiroo has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shiroo and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Castillo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Castillo goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Tetsuya Shiroo has been cut.
Shiroo tries to clinch but Castillo is having none of it.
Castillo was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Castillo circles away from the clinch attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Castillo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shiroo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tetsuya Shiroo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Castillo misses with an uppercut.
Shiroo is looking to clinch but Castillo is avoiding it.
A counter left hand to the body from Castillo misses its target.
Nice straight punches there by Castillo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Castillo.

Shiroo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shiroo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Castillo keeps working.

Castillo regains half guard there - taking advantage of Shiroo's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Shiroo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shiroo is trying to control the action in half guard but Castillo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shiroo in particular looking to stall.
Shiroo is trying to control. Castillo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Shiroo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Shiroo is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Castillo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shiroo.
Castillo has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Shiroo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Shiroo tries to pass to full mount but Castillo defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shiroo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shiroo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Shiroo content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Castillo is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shiroo asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Shiroo fails to land a wild elbow strike.
A lull in the action here as Shiroo stalls from top position.

Castillo gets back to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shiroo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castillo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shiroo wants to control from the top but Castillo keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shiroo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Castillo swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Castillo throws an elbow but it misses.
Shiroo blocks an elbow strike.
Castillo throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Castillo misses with a knee to the head.
Castillo lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Shiroo or not.
Castillo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shiroo can do to turn this around?

Castillo lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Shiroo or not.

Shiroo's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

That has opened up Tetsuya Shiroo's cut even more.
Shiroo is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Castillo lands an elbow that stopped Shiroo in his tracks for a moment.

Still in the clinch, Castillo scores with a nice short uppercut.
Castillo lands a body shot in the clinch.
Shiroo looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Castillo scores with a nice hook to the head.


The cut above Tetsuya Shiroo's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Castillo lands an elbow inside.
Castillo can't find room to land a body shot as Shiroo controls the action.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Castillo.
Castillo pushes Shiroo back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.


Tetsuya Shiroo's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Castillo creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Shiroo lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Castillo backwards.
Castillo throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Shiroos head.
Castillo lands an elbow just above Shiroo 's eye.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Tetsuya Shiroo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ricardo Castillo!
Our winner, Ricardo Castillo, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Tetsuya Shiroo spoke after the fight, saying 'I was prepared to die in this cage tonight. The opponent was the better man today but I will be back stronger.'.
