PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Addy Hardini (ranked 5400 p4p, 384 weight class) and Ash Road (ranked 6488 p4p, 419 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Addy Hardini!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ash Road!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Road goes for a double leg but Hardini avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hardini continues to drive forward.
Hardini leaves Road with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hardini throws a head kick but Road moves out of range.
Hardini lands a head kick. Road smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Hardini shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Road as he avoids it easily.
Hardini pushes Road away with a front kick.
Road has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hardini finds it's way round the side to connect with Road's head.
Hardini fails in his attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Road closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hardini quickly recovers to half guard.
Road looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Road passes to side control.
Hardini knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Road on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Road goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hardini has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Road but great work by Hardini.

Road is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hardini off and has taken his back!
Road scores with punches to the body.
Hardini's coaches at Cozad MMA New York have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Hardini takes a big shot to the side of the head.
What can Hardini do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Road lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Road.
Road throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Hardini!
Road is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Road gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Road gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Road apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Hardini connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Road shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Road was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hardini is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Road happy to just control the position for now.

Road is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hardini is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hardini prevents Road from improving position.
Road throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Hardini on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Road working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Road takes a little break here. Hardini wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Road lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Hardini tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Road wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Road thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Road moves into full mount!

Road is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hardini to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hardini shrugs it off.

Road takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Road really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Hardini.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ash Road dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hardini throws a sloppy head kick and Road moves out of range easily.
Road drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hardini defends it well.
Ash Road is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hardini throws a poor cross that misses

and Road counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Road frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Road has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Road controlling his opponent.

Road goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hardini turns into him and now he's in Road's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Road can do anything to dispel that myth.
Road looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hardini is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Road has Hardini pulled in close to control his posture.

Let's hope that Road has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Road is looking to take a break and control but Hardini is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Road has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Road works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Road tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Road has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Road wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hardini, who protects the arm well.

Road remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Road lands a decent elbow from side control.
Road grinds an elbow into Hardini's temple.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Road passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Hardini!

Ash Road showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Road shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hardini pinned against the cage. Hardini gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've been informed that Road has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Road lands a good shot there. Hardini covers up! Road smells blood and goes for the finish - the referee warns Hardini to improve his position but he's not intelligently defending himself and the referee has no choice but to step in and end the fight! Road jumps to his feet and celebrates the important win with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ash Road!
