Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shaggy Shank! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Menezes! The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shank misses with a straight right. Menezes lands a jab to the nose. Shank has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Martial Arts Dojo in the buildup to the fight. Menezes wants to clinch. Menezes has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Shank is landing a low percentage of strikes. Shank throws a body punch but Menezes moves out of range. Shank jabbing away but nothing is landing. Menezes throws a body punch but Shank moves out of range. Menezes moves out of range as Shank strikes. Shank will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shank misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Menezes.
Menezes tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Shank blocks a head kick by Menezes.
Menezes wants to clinch up but Shank keeps it at a distance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shank throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Shank fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Menezes on the side of the head. Menezes showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shank.
Shank takes a jab right on the kisser.
Shank fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shank misses with a looping left. Menezes drives through with a takedown into Shank's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Menezes pushing down on Shank's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Menezes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Shank is looking to escape. Menezes passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Shank! Menezes trying to control but he's not successful this time. Shank on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shank tries to get out of the position. Menezes landing strikes, looking to finish! Shank is bucking up trying to escape but Menezes cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Shank defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Menezes. Menezes working for a submission but Shank is keeping him at bay. Menezes jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Shank manages to avoid the submission attempt. Menezes has hold of Shank's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Shank seems comfortable defending it but Menezes has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Shank is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Shank is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Menezes couldn't care less - he's delighted!
