0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Garcia! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia shoots for a takedown but Hippolati saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Nice sprawl there from Hippolati as Garcia shoots in. Hippolati rushes Garcia and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Hippolati lands with a short head shot on the inside. Hippolati breaks the clinch.
Hippolati keeps the fight on the outside. Garcia tries to keep at a distance but Hippolati has taken the fight into the clinch. Garcia is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hippolati pulls him back up using the underhooks. Jesse Hippolati has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Garcia. Garcia has had enough of the clinch but Hippolati keeps him there for the moment. Garcia pulls Hippolati into guard.
Hippolati decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Garcia shoots in but no luck this time. Nice sprawl there from Hippolati as Garcia shoots in. Hippolati moves into range and clinches up with Garcia. Hippolati has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Garcia is trying to keep an underhook but Hippolati manages to get the takedown into half guard. Hippolati decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Hippolati has taken the fight to the clinch.
Garcia has Hippolati pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hippolati manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Hippolati breaks from the clinch.
A right-left combo lands from Hippolati. Hippolati throws a right and a left that Garcia avoids nicely. Hippolati feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hippolati controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Garcia looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hippolati is looking for a kimura but Garcia is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hippolati to get the leverage. Garcia looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Garcia looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Hippolati looks to land a combination. Garcia sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Garcia fails with the takedown and Hippolati holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Still in the clinch, Hippolati scores with a nice short uppercut. Hippolati lands a shoulder strike. Garcia fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hippolati pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hippolati changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Garcia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Garcia tries to strike from the bottom but misses. Garcia tries to buck Hippolati off but Hippolati is having none of it. Hippolati is working Garcia over with some ground and pound from side control. Garcia is looking to regain half guard here but Hippolati keeps moving and retains side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Hippolati thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hippolati tries to score with some ground and pound. Garcia controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Hippolati tries to stand but Garcia is controlling his head. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Garcia misses with a takedown and Hippolati counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hippolati. A nice left hand lands by Hippolati.
Hippolati prevents Garcia from breaking the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garcia tries for a takedown but Hippolati circles away easily and Hippolati holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Hippolati wants a takedown.

Garcia tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hippolati just stands there and leans against the cage. Garcia fails to pull guard.

Garcia is fighting the takedown attempt but Hippolati gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Garcia looking for a guillotine here but Hippolati defends easily.
Hippolati is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Hippolati stopping the sweep attempt from Garcia. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hippolati wants to get up but he can't break Garcia's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garcia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hippolati gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hippolati is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Hippolati wants to stand but Garcia has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Hippolati wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving. Hippolati slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Garcia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hippolati doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Garcia is tightening it up a little... Hippolati has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Hippolati reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Hippolati taps out! nice BJJ there by Garcia!
