The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pettis to the ground. Aoki is now in Pettis's guard.
Pettis keeping full guard, as Aoki tries to pass.
Aoki passes Pettis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Pettis controlling the position for now.
Aoki is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pettis has managed to free his arm - good work.
Aoki tries to pass to full mount but Pettis defends it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aoki is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pettis sees it coming and defends easily.
