Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nicolas Escobar !
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Escobar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pate pinned against the cage. Pate gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
As Escobar looks to move away, Pate throws a big counter combo but Escobar just gets out of the way.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pate.

Escobar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pate has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Escobar has managed to get both his arms back between Pate's legs - danger averted.

Pate tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Escobar wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pate pushes Escobar away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Escobar gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Escobar can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Escobar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pate is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Escobar 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Escobar 's back!

Pate has got his arm under Escobar 's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Escobar has spun round into Pate's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Escobar pushes down on Pate's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Escobar wants to stand up but Pate has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Escobar winds up and cracks Pate with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Escobar landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Escobar is taking a breather. Pate says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Escobar slips a nice elbow through Pate's hands, connecting with Pate's forehead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Escobar is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Escobar .

I think Escobar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
