Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sergei Ulatov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cory Dillon! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ulatov lands with an uppercut that bounces Dillon off the cage and back into range. Ulatov cracks a nice hook into Dillon's ribs. Dillon misses with a hook. Ulatov ducked under it nicely. Ulatov paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Ulatov misses with a body shot.
Ulatov misses with a takedown and Dillon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Ulatov blocks a jab. Ulatov lands with an overhand left. Ulatov looks to land a left hand but Dillon moved out of range nicely. Dillon appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Ulatov lands with a straight right. Dillon didn't see that one coming. Dillon takes one to the chin there. No luck for Ulatov with that takedown attempt. Dillon just misses with a punch to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ulatov misses with a hook. Ulatov shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sergei Ulatov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ulatov shoots for a double leg takedown but Dillon sprawls well. He's pushed Ulatov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ulatov steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dillon. Ulatov looks to land a right hand but Dillon moved out of range. Ulatov looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Dillon! Ulatov sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Dillon is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Ulatov is trying to get an arm triangle but Dillon is defending well. Dillon is looking to regain half guard here but Ulatov keeps moving and retains side control. Ulatov advances to full mount. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dillon can do anything to dispel that myth. Ulatov unloading with bombs! Dillon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ulatov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dillon squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Dillon is looking to improve his position but Ulatov isn't that keen on the idea. We've been hearing that Ulatov has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Ulatov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Dillon manages to avoid the submission attempt. This has been an exciting period of action! You can see the frustration on Dillon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Dillon takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ulatov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ulatov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Dillon is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ulatov has just dragged him back down to the mat. Dillon tries to escape back to his feet but Ulatov has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Dillon's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Dillon is tapping! Ulatov saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sergei Ulatov! Cory Dillon spoke after the fight, saying 'I would like a rematch to prove this loss was a fluke!'.
