The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but abraao moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
abraao tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Alves swivels and escapes.

Alves drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

abraao is trying to keep Alves in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
abraao is really struggling to control Alves but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Alves stands up and waves to abraao to follow him.
Alves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

abraao looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Alves!

Alves manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Alves is not content to let abraao control the position.

Alves is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but abraao pulls his head out easily.

Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. abraao is working away from the top position though.
Alves flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
abraao seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alves does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Alves kicks off abraao and gets to his feet.

abraao is trying to keep Alves in close.

abraao tries to kick Alves off but Alves keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

abraao is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
abraao is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Alves scores with a couple of nice shots.
Alves seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
abraao could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
abraao wants to control but Alves is keeping busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Alves is working for a kimura but abraao is defending it quite comfortably.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Alves dips to his left and cracks abraao with an uppercut!

Alves tries to lock up and control but abraao gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
You get the feeling that Alves really doesn't like being in this position too much.

abraao has control of Alves's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Alves regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

abraao fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
abraao can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alves is looking to escape.

abraao is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Alves lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
abraao throws a sloppy head kick and Alves moves out of range easily.

Alves closes the distance and clinches.

Alves gets control of abraao's arms and successfully pulls guard. Alves will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
