Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Franklin (ranked 4194 p4p, 400 weight class) and Joel Vazquez (ranked 4408 p4p, 421 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Franklin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joel Vazquez! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franklin throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vazquez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Franklin is in Vazquez's guard. Vazquez is trying to control the position but Franklin postures up. Franklin passes into half guard. Franklin controlling the pace. Vazquez is trying to control but can't.
Vazquez is refusing to be controlled, as Franklin sits in half guard. Franklin throwing shots but Vazquez is blocking nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vazquez trying to hold on to Franklin's head to control him but Franklin postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Franklin trying to mount his opponent but Vazquez defends it. Vazquez trying to control from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vazquez is concentrating on defense, preventing Franklin from advancing position. Franklin is thwarting Vazquez's attempts to control the position. Franklin trying to control the pace. Franklin tries to pass to full mount but Vazquez defends it. Franklin drops an elbow to the side of Vazquez's head. Franklin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vazquez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Vazquez wants to get back to full guard. Vazquez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Franklin scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Vazquez is defending against the submission attempts here by Franklin.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Franklin shoots in but no luck this time. Vazquez misses with a takedown attempt - Franklin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franklin dives in and scores a takedown into Vazquez's guard. Vazquez wants to sweep here but Franklin controlling him for the moment. Franklin throws a big elbow that misses. Franklin throws a big right hand that misses. Vazquez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Vazquez is controlling Franklin's posture. Franklin sitting in guard here, content to control. Franklin connects with a couple of short punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vazquez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Franklin is controlling him. Franklin lands a couple of elbows. Franklin throws a big elbow that misses. Vazquez throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Vazquez has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Franklin is landing a low percentage of strikes. Franklin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Franklin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Vazquez sneaks out the side door and pushes Franklin away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Franklin dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Vazquez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Franklin swivels and escapes. Vazquez shoots for a double leg takedown but Franklin sprawls well. He's pushed Vazquez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Franklin tries to counter by clinching up but Vazquez breaks away and moves out of range. Franklin shoots in and bounces Vazquez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Franklin distracts Vazquez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Franklin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Vazquez is trying to control the position but Franklin postures up. Vazquez keeping moving, preventing Franklin from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vazquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Franklin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Franklin working some strikes from top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franklin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. John Franklin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Franklin looking to sit in guard and control but Vazquez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Vazquez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Franklin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Franklin tries to get out of the position. Franklin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vazquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Franklin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vazquez's guard. Vazquez has momentary wrist control but Franklin slips an elbow through the middle. Vazquez wants to control but Franklin passes easily into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Franklin thows a huge punch but Vazquez dodges it nicely.

Franklin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vazquez can do to turn this around? Franklin wants to free his trapped foot but Vazquez is holding on for dear life with his legs. Franklin sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vazquez defending well though. Vazquez trying to hold on to Franklin's head to control him but Franklin postures up.
Vazquez tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Franklin working Vazquez over with strikes. Franklin is trying to control the action in half guard but Vazquez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franklin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Vazquez tries to roll over but Franklin keeps him under control. Franklin tries to stand but can't do so whilst Vazquez controls his leg. Franklin sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vazquez defending well though. Franklin is trying to control. Vazquez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Vazquez dives in and grabs Franklin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Franklin pushes down on Vazquez's head and hops out. John Franklin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joel Vazquez. Vazquez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Franklin tries to land a leg kick but Vazquez saw it coming and moves away.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Vazquez enables Franklin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vazquez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Franklin wants to control from the top but Vazquez keeps moving. Franklin preventing the sweep. Vazquez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Franklin cracks Vazquez with a solid left hand. Franklin is working Vazquez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Vazquez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Franklin dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Franklin shoots in but no luck this time. No luck for Franklin with that takedown attempt. And Vazquez tries to counter it with a takedown but Franklin pushes his down on his head and steps out. Franklin lands an overhand right. Vazquez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Franklin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Vazquez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Franklin is trying to control Vazquez's posture but Vazquez avoids it. Franklin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Franklin striking from the bottom but nothing landed.

That's one minute gone in the round. Franklin is working to avoid the ground and pound but Vazquez connects with a decent elbow. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Vazquez working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Franklin is rocked! Vazquez passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Franklin! Oh Franklin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Vazquez cracks Franklin with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Vazquez looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Franklin covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
