Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norman Pearson (ranked 1061 p4p, 107 weight class) and Robert McKenna (ranked 3030 p4p, 278 weight class). McKenna is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Freedom. Robert McKenna will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

I was talking to Pearson's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

McKenna shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pearson's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
McKenna might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Pearson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

As Pearson backs off McKenna throws a huge counter combo but Pearson manages to avoid it all.
McKenna tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pearson defends well and McKenna ends up having to push Pearson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
McKenna has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looked like Pearson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Pearson is really struggling to find his range with his punches. McKenna's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Pearson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McKenna manages to avoid it.

The fight stays on the outside here - McKenna looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That has opened up Robert McKenna's cut even more.
McKenna shoots in looking for a takedown but Pearson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing McKenna's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
