TWGC 22 (265lbs, D3): Las Vegas Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Arvo Laar (ranked 5089 p4p, 626 weight class) and Jeremy Locastro (ranked 3941 p4p, 334 weight class). Laar comes to the cage accompanied by some random 90's estonia dance song i found on youtube. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 8 losses; Arvo Laar! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Jeremy Locastro!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Locastro moves into the clinch.

Locastro is trying to trip Laar. He has hold of a leg but Laar is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Locastro persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Laar has his foot on Locastro's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Locastro works his way back into a safe position though.

Locastro slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Locastro is pushing down on Laar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Laar is fighting to maintain full guard but Locastro has managed to sneak the leg through.

Laar could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've been hearing good reports from Laar's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Laar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Locastro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Laar bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Laar trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Locastro manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Locastro is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Laar has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Locastro is looking to defend but Laar has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Locastro! Laar pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Locastro taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 10:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Arvo Laar!
After the fight, Arvo Laar was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
