Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sagoya Nobonaga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 10 - 2, fighting out of New York, Patrick Cleary! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cleary ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Cleary changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Nobonaga has managed to clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Nobonaga obliges. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Cleary gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Nobonaga regains guard.
Nobonaga keeping full guard, as Cleary tries to pass. Cleary stops Nobonaga from standing up. Cleary wants to control from the top but Nobonaga keeps moving. Nobonaga working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cleary. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cleary accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Cleary forces his way into half guard. Cleary trying to control from half guard but Nobonaga is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cleary is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Cleary is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Nobonaga has managed to free his arm - good work. Cleary scoring with strikes to the body and head. Cleary wants to pass to mount but Nobonaga is defending the position. Cleary seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Cleary slows the pace down in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cleary seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nobonaga does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cleary seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Nobonaga is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
