PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Krause (ranked 2326 p4p, 228 weight class) and John Nordquist (ranked 2059 p4p, 214 weight class). Krause's entrance music is Heart of a Champion. A fine choice. Nordquist has chosen Hard Rock Hallelujah as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, James Krause!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Nordquist!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krause shoots in looking for a takedown. Nordquist tries to sprawl out of it but Krause keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nordquist manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Krause moves out of range of the leg kick from Nordquist.
Nordquist lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Nordquist keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Krause closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nordquist did well to prevent Krause getting side control.
Krause is looking to advance position but Nordquist won't allow it.
Nordquist is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Krause is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Krause is working for an americana but Nordquist has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Krause was thinking about the submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Krause lands a couple of digs.
Krause stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nordquist swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Krause thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Krause tries to free his leg and advance position but Nordquist is retaining full guard.
Krause wants to control from the top but Nordquist keeps moving.
Nordquist controls Krause momentarily but Krause frees himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nordquist misses with a low kick.
Krause throws a hook to the side of Nordquist's head but Nordquist sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nordquist's coach down at Lock and Roll Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Nordquist's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Krause closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Krause lands in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Krause accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Krause chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Nordquist can pounce on him.

Krause shoots for a double leg takedown but Nordquist sprawls well. He's pushed Krause's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fighters circle momentarily. Nordquist darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

I would just about give that final round to John Nordquist.
