Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aaron Cooke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Max Collis! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Chris Dean and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cooke tries to clinch up and Collis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Collis. Collis is standing up over Cooke. Cooke looks to escape but Collis dives into side control.
Collis looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Cooke is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Collis working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cooke throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Cooke tries to bench press Collis off him but Collis keeps the position. Collis gets to mount! Cooke was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Cooke is looking to improve his position but Collis isn't that keen on the idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cooke wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Collis.
Cooke flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Cooke is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Cooke throwing hammer fists to the chest of Collis. What's that going to do exactly? Collis trying to control but he's not successful this time. Collis blocks Cooke's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Collis throwing strikes here but Cooke is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Collis thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Cooke looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Collis patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Collis is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Cooke fending off the submission attempt from Collis. Collis is hanging on to Cooke's back as he tries to escape.
Cooke trying to get back to his feet but Collis is in full control for now. Cooke trying to control the hands but Collis breaks the grip. Cooke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Collis on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Collis struggling to keep hold of the position.
Collis has the hooks in. Cooke is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Cooke wants to get back to his feet. Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Sydney inform us that Collis has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Cooke tries to escape but he's let his defenses down in doing so and Collis has slipped in the rear naked choke! Oh, that's tiiiiiiiiight! Cooke is tapping! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
