PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shiba Inu (ranked 2356 p4p, 265 weight class) and Phil Benton (ranked 8049 p4p, 629 weight class). Inu comes into the arena with Koi no Mega Lover blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shiba Inu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phil Benton!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Inu shoots in looking for a takedown. Benton tries to sprawl out of it but Inu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Benton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Benton doesn't manage to clinch there - Inu circles away.
Benton will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Benton lands a jab to Inu's midsection.

Inu goes for a double leg but Benton avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Benton continues to drive forward.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Inu is defended easily by Benton.
Shiba Inu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Benton throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Benton rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Inu moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Benton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Benton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Inu sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Benton throws a shot from downtown. Inu moves away and avoids it.

Inu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Benton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Inu somewhat.
Benton throws a jab but it's blocked by Inu.
Inu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Benton swivels and escapes.

Inu slips a jab from Benton.
Inu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Benton.
Benton bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Inu's head.
Sloppy strikes from Benton. Those never looked like landing.
Benton swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Inu feinted with a counter takedown.
Benton misses with a looping right.
Benton moves in looking to clinch but Inu pushes him off.

Inu gets the takedown into side control.
Benton tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Benton can do anything to dispel that myth.

Inu is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Benton can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Inu looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Inu misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Benton is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Inu pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Inu looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Inu is working for a guillotine from mount but Benton frees his head quite easily.

Inu is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Benton has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Inu looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Benton dominated that round.
That's time! Inu's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Inu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Benton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Inu circles away quickly and effectively.
Benton throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Inu tries to counter with a takedown but Benton is quick to defend against it.
Benton might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Inu is trying hard to land a takedown here. Benton sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shiba Inu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown attempt by Inu or perhaps it was just good defense by Benton, which made it look bad.
Inu is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Benton cracks Inu's jaw with two stiff jabs then ducks low and throws a soul-severing right uppercut to the mouth!! Inu slumps to the ground with blood on his lips. The referee steps in before Benton can do further damage! This one is done, son!
