PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Borys Mankowski (ranked 6913 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinoa Smiff (ranked 3087 p4p, 0 weight class). Mankowski comes into the arena with Kękę -Wyjebane blaring out of the sound system. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Borys Mankowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Quinoa Smiff!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smiff throws a lazy body kick

and Mankowski counters with a single leg into guard. Smiff didn't expect that.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Smiff holds on and takes a little breather.
Smiff doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Smiff looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mankowski wants to control from the top but Smiff keeps moving.

Smiff is adopting a defensive guard.

Mankowski avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mankowski is fighting to break Smiff's control of his arms but Smiff is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smiff has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mankowski can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Smiff bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Mankowski takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mankowski slips a jab and a cross from Smiff.

Smiff drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smiff is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smiff wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mankowski keeps working.
Mankowski tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smiff wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Smiff working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Smiff wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mankowski, who protects the arm well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mankowski is working to avoid the ground and pound but Smiff connects with a decent elbow.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinoa Smiff dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Quinoa Smiff has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smiff trying to control from half guard but Mankowski is working away.
Mankowski has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smiff is working away from the top position though.
Mankowski is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mankowski is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smiff pulls his head out easily.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smiff connects with a nice short shot to Mankowski's temple.

Smiff takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Smiff trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Smiff tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mankowski is trying to escape the mount.

Well, with Smiff on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Mankowski is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
I really don't envy Mankowski right now.

Smiff is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mankowski is defending well though. Smiff let's go of the attempt for now.
