1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Evander Kuchinello! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Francis DeMontford and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kuchinello keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Philbert. Kuchinello swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Philbert counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Philbert decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Kuchinello throws a sloppy head kick and Philbert moves out of range easily. Kuchinello cracks Philbert with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Kuchinello swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Philbert went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Kuchinello throws a head kick but Philbert moves out of range.
Kuchinello cracks Philbert with a good jab. Philbert fails in his attempt to clinch. Kuchinello forces Philbert back against the cage and clinches. Philbert jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kuchinello walks away with a smile on his face. Philbert gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Philbert throws a combination that misses and Kuchinello counters with a nice uppercut. Philbert shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kuchinello but Kuchinello pushes him off and we're back to square one.

A head kick misses from Kuchinello. As Kuchinello tries to get set, Philbert tries to push him back and clinch up but Kuchinello manages to avoid the attempt. Good shot there by Kuchinello. Kuchinello lands with a slapping head kick. Sloppy strikes from Philbert. Those never looked like landing. Kuchinello smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Philbert throws a sloppy head kick and Kuchinello moves out of range easily. Philbert tries to clinch there but Kuchinello circles away.

Philbert tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kuchinello smiles and moves away.

Philbert tries to throw a body punch but Kuchinello avoids it by throwing Philbert back against the cage. Philbert taking a breather. Philbert breaks the clinch.
Philbert gets the takedown into side control. Philbert is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kuchinello's shoulder. That is not cool. Kuchinello wants to get back to his feet but Philbert drags him back down.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Philbert stands up and we're back to a striking position. Philbert with a lazy takedown attempt and Kuchinello counters with a single leg into guard. Philbert didn't expect that. Kuchinello must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Philbert is breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kuchinello trying to stand up but can't free himself from Philbert's guard. Philbert looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Philbert working a defensive guard here.

Kuchinello decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Philbert, up you get! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Evander Kuchinello dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Kuchinello throws a big shot that misses. Philbert moves into the clinch successfully.
Kuchinello pushes Philbert back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Kuchinello landing knees to the body.
Kuchinello has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Kuchinello has Philbert pushed against the cage. Kuchinello's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Philbert blocks a jab. A little feinted left hand from Philbert on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Kuchinello lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Philbert tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Philbert avoids the head kick by Kuchinello.
Kuchinello missing with a left hand there. Philbert was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Kuchinello moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Philbert fails with a takedown attempt.

Philbert's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Philbert gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kuchinello. Evander Kuchinello is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Philbert wants to land a leg kick but Kuchinello is out of range. A nice side step and Kuchinello releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Philbert throws a lazy head kick and Kuchinello counters with a head kick.
It looks like Ted Philbert has been cut. Philbert tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kuchinello paws at him with a jab and circles away. Kuchinello throws a hook to the side of Philbert's head but Philbert sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. A head kick misses from Kuchinello. Kuchinello might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Philbert misses with a takedown and Kuchinello holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Kuchinello is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Philbert asserts his dominance and retains side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kuchinello can do anything to dispel that myth. Evander Kuchinello showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Ted Philbert's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Kuchinello is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Philbert is controlling him. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Philbert looking to sit in guard and control but Kuchinello gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Philbert is trying to keep Kuchinello in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Philbert tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kuchinello manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Kuchinello changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Kuchinello smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Kuchinello fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Kuchinello tries to keep at a distance but Philbert has taken the fight into the clinch. Kuchinello landing knees to the head.
Philbert escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Philbert fails with a takedown attempt from distance. No luck with that takedown attempt from Philbert. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ted Philbert. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kuchinello connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Philbert is rocked! Kuchinello swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Philbert dives in and grabs Kuchinello's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kuchinello pushes down on Philbert's head and hops out. Philbert walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Oh Philbert is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Kuchinello steps in with a hook that catches Philbert right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Kuchinello follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Philbert looks absolutely devastated.
