Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Silva (ranked 4618 p4p, 389 weight class) and Gerardo Lanuza (ranked 5357 p4p, 438 weight class). Gerardo Lanuza will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lanuza moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Silva lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Silva throws a big shot that misses.
Lanuza scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Silva doesn't seem bothered though.
Lanuza blocks a head kick by Silva.
Nice cross by Lanuza.

and Silva counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like Gerardo Lanuza has been cut.

Silva tries for a takedown but Lanuza sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silva closes the distance and clinches.
Silva wants a takedown but no success here.
Lanuza wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Silva misses with a punch on the inside.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Silva blocks an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Silva just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lanuza's brow.
Silva drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lanuza pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lanuza connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Lanuza scores with a decent looking hook.
Lanuza misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Silva takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Jab, jab by Lanuza - just one landing.
Silva drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

A lull in the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Silva is working Lanuza over with some ground and pound from side control.
Lanuza is trying to escape the position but Silva is controlling the position.
Silva in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
That has opened up Gerardo Lanuza's cut even more.
Silva working the body and head with strikes.
Gerardo Lanuza's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Gerardo Lanuza's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
