Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rafael De Souza (ranked 6526 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiroshi Kawanabe (ranked 1468 p4p, 0 weight class). Rafael De Souza has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rafael De Souza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hiroshi Kawanabe! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Souza shoots and misses and Kawanabe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Kawanabe scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. De Souza doesn't seem bothered though. Kawanabe lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
The fight stays on the outside here - De Souza looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kawanabe swats away the attempt to clinch by De Souza. De Souza tries for a takedown but Kawanabe circles away easily and Kawanabe counters with a nice body shot. Kawanabe's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kawanabe's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. De Souza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rafael De Souza. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kawanabe jabs at De Souza's body. De Souza shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kawanabe as he avoids it easily. De Souza looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kawanabe is fending him off so far but De Souza persists. Nope, Kawanabe circles away and we're back to standing. Kawanabe connects with a crisp jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Souza tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kawanabe swats him away and circles back towards the center. De Souza shoots in for a double leg but Kawanabe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. De Souza takes one to the side of the head.
Kawanabe scores with a jab to the body. De Souza on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Kawanabe cracks De Souza with an open hand slap. De Souza shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kawanabe defends it nicely. De Souza is breathing heavily. De Souza takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Kawanabe is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down De Souza rather than just go for the knockout. Kawanabe works the jab nicely. De Souza tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kawanabe defends well and De Souza ends up having to push Kawanabe into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Kawanabe takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. This has been an exciting period of action! Kawanabe fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kawanabe drops De Souza with a straight right hand, right on the button! Kawanabe follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
