Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chenchen Li (ranked 2597 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fransisco Gonzalez (ranked 2371 p4p, 0 weight class). Fransisco Gonzalez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chenchen Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fransisco Gonzalez!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez dives in for a single leg takedown but Li sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Li shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gonzalez pinned against the cage. Gonzalez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Li gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gonzalez counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Gonzalez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Li lands with an overhand left.
Li misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gonzalez steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Li.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chenchen Li. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Li tries to clinch but Gonzalez is having none of it.
A nice side step and Gonzalez releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Li takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gonzalez blocks the elbow strike.

Li tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gonzalez just stands there and leans against the cage.

Li trying to control the position but instead, Gonzalez has worked for underhooks and has pushed Li into the cage.
Gonzalez tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Gonzalez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Li dodges the ground and pound from Gonzalez.

Gonzalez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gonzalez takes a little break here. Li wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The strikes coming from Gonzalez are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Li is trying to control Gonzalez's posture but Gonzalez avoids it.

Gonzalez stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gonzalez moves into range and clinches up with Li.
Li wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Li fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Li can't get the takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Li wants to break free but Gonzalez has control.

Gonzalez breaks from the clinch.

Gonzalez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gonzalez uses his free foot to push down on Li's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Li.

Gonzalez is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Li can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gonzalez lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gonzalez is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Gonzalez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Li wants to get back to striking at distance but Gonzalez won't allow it.

Gonzalez drags the fight down to the ground.
Gonzalez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Li. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gonzalez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Li manages to get himself to full guard.

Gonzalez postures up in Li's guard and throws a big left but Li blocks it.
Gonzalez stays in close to Li's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Li pulls Gonzalez in close to his closed guard and prevents Gonzalez from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gonzalez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gonzalez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Li wants to control but Gonzalez is having none of it.
Li is desperately trying to improve his position but Gonzalez has a good base and remains in mount.
Li wants to hold on but Gonzalez pushes him away.

Gonzalez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gonzalez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Li is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gonzalez has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Li's face.
Gonzalez tries to control but Li wriggling away.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fransisco Gonzalez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Li fails with the takedown

and Gonzalez counters by moving into the clinch.
Li is trying to push Gonzalez away but Gonzalez has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Gonzalez has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Li clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Li got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gonzalez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Li has managed to get both his arms back between Gonzalez's legs - danger averted.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Li shoots in for a takedown but Gonzalez shows good takedown defense.
Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Li but Li pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Li fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Gonzalez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Gonzalez has Li pressed against the cage, preventing Li from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Li tries to break the clinch but Gonzalez is controlling the position.

Gonzalez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Li leaves Gonzalez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Li tries to clinch but Gonzalez is having none of it.

Gonzalez throws a head kick that Li semi-blocks.
Gonzalez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Li avoids it really well and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fransisco Gonzalez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gonzalez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
