TWGC 22 (265lbs, D4): Montreal Qualifier - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Sage Sabin (ranked 7780 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hudson Walker (ranked 24301 p4p, 0 weight class). Sabin comes to the cage accompanied by Supersonic - Oasis. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Sage Sabin! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Hudson Walker!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Sabin is looking to clinch but Walker is avoiding it.
Walker shoots in but no luck this time.
Walker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sabin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Walker somewhat.
Walker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sabin tries to avoid it but Walker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sabin to the ground. Sabin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sabin half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Sage Sabin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hudson Walker.

Walker tries to keep at a distance but Sabin has taken the fight into the clinch.

Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Sabin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Walker tries to free his leg and advance position but Sabin is retaining full guard.

Walker has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sabin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Walker.

Walker is looking to regain half guard here but Sabin keeps moving and retains side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Walker can do anything to dispel that myth.

Walker manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sabin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Walker defends it well.
Walker is looking for a sweep. Sabin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sabin in particular looking to stall.
We've been informed that Walker has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Walker sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Sabin is just content to waste time from the top position. Walker takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Walker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sabin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Walker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sabin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sabin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Walker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sabin is looking for a kimura but Walker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sabin to get the leverage.

Sabin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Sabin goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Walker has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sabin but great work by Walker.

Walker swings around for an armbar but Sabin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Walker's guard.

Sabin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Walker swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Walker looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Walker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sabin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sabin seems to be working for a kimura but Walker defends the submission attempt.

Walker is staying active underneath Sabin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Sabin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Walker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sabin content to control rather than advance.

A very excited looking Sage Sabin rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
