Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antony Duke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlos Dias! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dias gets a double leg takedown into Duke's guard. Dias pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duke is keeping the position for now. Dias wants to get up but he can't break Duke's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Dias is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dias is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dias scoring with some ground and pound. Dias wants to stand but Duke is controlling his posture from full guard. Dias is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Carlos Dias seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Duke moves into the clinch. Dias pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Dias shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Duke is trying to defend but Dias finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Dias looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Dias has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Dias lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Dias works his way into side control. Duke is breathing heavily. Dias taking a breather here. Duke really is a fat lump.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duke takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Dias in side control, just content to control the action for now. Dias landing a few strikes.
Duke is rocked! Dias tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Duke trying to remain calm as Dias controls from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Dias has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Duke managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Dias.
Duke gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carlos Dias dominated that round. The cut man is working on Antony Duke's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Duke shoots in looking for a takedown but Dias manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Duke's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Dias closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Duke's guard. Dias trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Dias is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Dias has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Dias lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dias sitting in guard, not really doing much. Dias scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dias controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Dias arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Duke's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Carlos Dias!
