Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ian Laperierre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ted Cruz! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz misses with a straight right. Laperierre is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Cruz throws a combination that misses and Laperierre counters by moving into the clinch. Laperierre's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Laperierre is pushing Cruz up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Laperierre lands on the inside with an uppercut. Laperierre gets control of Cruz's arms and successfully pulls guard. Laperierre will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Cruz trying to control but Laperierre is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Laperierre looking for a guillotine here but Cruz defends easily.

Cruz trying to control but Laperierre is working from the bottom. Cruz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Laperierre works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Laperierre wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Laperierre working for a triangle but Cruz defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Laperierre is looking for a triangle here but Cruz uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cruz working away. Laperierre holds on to Cruz's head and controls the position momentarily. Laperierre is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Laperierre can't do much from the bottom here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. I wouldn't like to be where Laperierre is right now. Laperierre is trying to improve his position. You can see the frustration on Laperierre's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Laperierre is trying to work for a sweep but Cruz has mounted him! Laperierre gets back to half guard. Laperierre is not content to let Cruz control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Laperierre preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Laperierre really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Laperierre gets full guard. Laperierre is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cruz defends well. Laperierre is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Laperierre bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cruz's guard.

Laperierre misses the shot to the body. Cruz throws out a leg kick but Laperierre moves out of range and Cruz only half commits. Laperierre tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Cruz manages to circle out of the way. Cruz lands a nice hook to Laperierre's body. Laperierre takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Laperierre lands a nice looking body shot.
Laperierre lands a jab. A low kick from Cruz misses and Laperierre counters with a lovely straight right hand! Laperierre uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cruz. Laperierre misses with a body shot.
Laperierre is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cruz can do to turn this around? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice shot by Cruz. Laperierre clinches with his opponent.
Laperierre gets through Cruz's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Laperierre pulls guard effortlessly. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Laperierre escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cruz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cruz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cruz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Laperierre trying to control the position here. Laperierre throws his legs up looking for a submission but Cruz uses it to pass to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Laperierre tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Laperierre tries to hold on but Cruz pushes him away. Laperierre is looking to get to half guard. Ian Laperierre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Laperierre tries to hold on but Cruz postures up. Cruz looking to control but Laperierre is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Laperierre wants to pass the guard but Cruz is defending well. Laperierre takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Cruz thuds his right hand into Laperierre's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Laperierre misses with a hook. Cruz ducked under it nicely. Cruz stuffs the takedown attempt from Laperierre. Laperierre gets slowly back to his feet. Cruz throws a left and a right that both miss
and Laperierre counters by clinching up. Laperierre lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Laperierre prevents Cruz from breaking the clinch.

Cruz is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Ted Cruz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Laperierre goes for a takedown attempt but Cruz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Laperierre. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cruz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Laperierre moves away. Cruz loads up on a big right hand but Laperierre slips the punch. Laperierre throwing a counter right hand but Cruz manages to avoid it.
And that's the end of the fight! Ian Laperierre showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Laperierre, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
