Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Duncan Rutledge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Linus Paul!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rutledge gets caught napping as Paul dives in and scores a takedown. Rutledge manages to retain guard.
Rutledge trying to control the position.

Paul working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rutledge is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Paul dives into side control.

Rutledge really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rutledge closes the distance and clinches.
Rutledge pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Rutledge breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rutledge looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Paul goes for a double leg but Rutledge avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rutledge continues to drive forward.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Paul tries to pull guard but Rutledge forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Rutledge is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Paul is defending well.
Paul drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Paul tries to close the distance and clinch but Rutledge swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Paul shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rutledge pinned against the cage. Rutledge gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Paul has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rutledge can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Paul shoots in for a takedown but Rutledge shows good takedown defense.
Rutledge half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Duncan Rutledge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Linus Paul.
Paul throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Paul shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rutledge but Rutledge pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Paul shoots in looking for a takedown. Rutledge tries to sprawl out of it but Paul keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rutledge manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Rutledge rushes Paul and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rutledge has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Paul clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Paul turns into Rutledge and is now in his guard.
Rutledge will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Rutledge is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rutledge wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Paul wants to control from the top but Rutledge keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rutledge pushes Paul off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
