PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richie Fortune (ranked 2407 p4p, 351 weight class) and Spencer Rubenstein (ranked 1934 p4p, 293 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Richie Fortune!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spencer Rubenstein!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Steve Erwin and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rubenstein doesn't manage to clinch there - Fortune circles away.
Rubenstein waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Fortune.
Rubenstein tries to clinch
and Fortune counters with a left and a right that stings Rubenstein.
Fortune misses with a looping right.
Fortune throws an overhand right that lands on Rubenstein's shoulder, as Rubenstein tries to avoid the shot.
Rubenstein tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fortune manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rubenstein fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fortune manages to avoid it.
Rubenstein tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Fortune counters with a left to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rubenstein will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rubenstein has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

and Fortune counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Rubenstein closes the distance and clinches.
Rubenstein takes a shot to the head.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Fortune.
Fortune misses with a punch on the inside.
Fortune will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rubenstein up against the cage.
I was talking to Fortune's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Fortune blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Still in the clinch, Rubenstein scores with a nice short uppercut.
Rubenstein works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fortune looking to slow down the pace here.

Rubenstein fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Rubenstein lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Fortune lands a hook that snaps the head of Rubenstein backwards.
Fortune looking to stall.
Fortune tries to stall but Rubenstein uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Fortune breaks from the clinch.
Fortune waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rubenstein.

Rubenstein instigates a clinch.
Fortune is trying to maintain a safe position but Rubenstein gets an underhook and turns Fortune into the cage.
Fortune lands a right hand that snaps the head of Rubenstein backwards.
Rubenstein goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Fortune doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Fortune lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rubenstein swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Rubenstein jumps guard and drags Fortune to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Fortune postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rubenstein is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fortune, into his guard.


Rubenstein drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fortune manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rubenstein has Fortune in his guard.

Fortune in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Fortune controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Rubenstein looking for a guillotine here but Fortune defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rubenstein is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rubenstein is looking for a triangle but Fortune pushes his legs off easily.

Fortune decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rubenstein looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Richie Fortune will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Donk. Rubenstein catches Fortune right on the button with a cross.

Rubenstein gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rubenstein lands a body shot in the clinch.
Rubenstein throws a head punch that misses.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Fortune.
Fortune misses with a short punch on the inside.
A short right from Rubenstein.
Rubenstein tries to throw a body punch but Fortune avoids it by throwing Rubenstein back against the cage.
Rubenstein tries to pull guard but Fortune won't allow it.
Fortune's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Oh Fortune is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rubenstein lands a hook that snaps the head of Fortune backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rubenstein lands a body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rubenstein fails to pull the fight into his guard.

A right handed body shot lands from Rubenstein.
Rubenstein has a couple of punches blocked by Fortune.
Fortune seems to have got his legs back now.

Rubenstein ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rubenstein no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Fortune is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rubenstein has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Fortune is looking to defend but Rubenstein has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Fortune! Rubenstein pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Fortune taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Spencer Rubenstein!
A very excited looking Spencer Rubenstein made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
