Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kendo Hirigushi (ranked 829 p4p, 93 weight class) and Chris Boag (ranked 1356 p4p, 156 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kendo Hirigushi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Boag!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Hirigushi throws a one two combo.


It looks like Chris Boag has been cut.
Boag connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hirigushi momentarily.
Boag misses with a hook
and Hirigushi counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hirigushi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Boag only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Hirigushi pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hirigushi takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Nice defenses there by Boag.
Boag feints a counter leg kick.

Boag throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Hirigushi counters with a straight right hand.
Hirigushi on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Hirigushi rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Boag counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hirigushi uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Boag has time to react.
Hirigushi throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Boag counters with a right hand to the body.
Boag throws a lazy uppercut
and Hirigushi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A slow jab from Hirigushi misses its intended target.
Boag feints a counter leg kick.
A slow jab from Boag misses its intended target.

Hirigushi ducks straight into an uppercut from Boag and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Hirigushi manages to regain guard straight away.


Hirigushi is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hirigushi wants to stand up but Boag is controlling him.
Boag trying to control the position from guard on top but Hirigushi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hirigushi wants to get back to his feet but Boag is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boag pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hirigushi is keeping the position for now.

Boag drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hirigushi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Boag has Hirigushi in his guard.

Boag looking to control.

Boag looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hirigushi wants to stand but Boag is controlling his posture from full guard.

Hirigushi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A jab from Boag finds it's way through Hirigushi's defenses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Boag cracks Hirigushi with an uppercut from hell and Hirigushi crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Boag's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Oh Hirigushi is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Boag drops back looking for a leg! Hirigushi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hirigushi manages to kick Boag off! Boag jumps back into Hirigushi's guard.
Hirigushi seems to have got his legs back now.

Hirigushi kicks Boag off and gets to his feet.
Boag rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hirigushi counters with a stiff right hand.
Hirigushi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Boag throws out the jab.

Hirigushi drops Boag with a beautiful combination! Boag stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hirigushi is looking for the KO!


Boag is rocked!
A shot to the body from Hirigushi misses
and Hirigushi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Boag will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Chris Boag's cut.
That's time! Hirigushi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Boag takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Hirigushi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Boag sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A swing and a miss from Boag.
Hirigushi throwing a counter right hand but Boag manages to avoid it.
Boag throws a body punch but Hirigushi moves out of range.
A little feinted left hand from Hirigushi on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

letting Boag counter with a right hand.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Hirigushi scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Hirigushi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Boag misses with an uppercut.
Boag uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hirigushi.
Boag throws a push kick but Hirigushi slaps the foot to one side.
Hirigushi is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Hirigushi misses with a looping right.
Hirigushi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hirigushi appears to be looking for a big counter.
Nice straight punches there by Hirigushi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hirigushi.

Hirigushi cracks Boag with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Boag jabs Hirigushi right on the nose. Hirigushi blinks but takes it well.
Boag throws a looping overhand right but Hirigushi ducks down to avoid it.
It looked like Hirigushi wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Boag rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hirigushi counters with a nice uppercut.
Hirigushi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Boag.
Boag misses the jab.

Boag takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Boag takes a swing at Hirigushi's ribcage but misses.
Hirigushi misses with an uppercut
and Boag counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Boag takes one to the chin there.
Boag misses with a left hand
enabling Hirigushi to counter with a crisp jab.

Hirigushi paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Boag is still on wobbly legs! Can Hirigushi finish him?
Boag rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hirigushi counters with a straight right hand.
Boag throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hirigushi went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Boag seems to have recovered his senses.
Boag throws a hook but Hirigushi avoids it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A swing and a miss from Hirigushi.
Boag replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Hirigushi blocks it well.
Hirigushi misses with a looping right.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Boag! But no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kendo Hirigushi dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Chris Boag's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Boag scores with a punch to the head.
Boag misses with a low kick.
Hirigushi jabs Boag right on the nose. Boag blinks but takes it well.
Chris Boag seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hirigushi throws a right hand that misses

and Boag counters with a left hand that sends Hirigushi to the canvas!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hirigushi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boag is one step ahead there.
Boag tries to free his leg and advance position but Hirigushi is retaining full guard.

Boag is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hirigushi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boag is controlling him.
Boag pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hirigushi is keeping the position for now.
Hirigushi looking for a sweep. Not yet Hirigushi, not yet.
Boag wants to control from the top but Hirigushi keeps moving.
Hirigushi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hirigushi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boag is controlling him.
Hirigushi keeping full guard, as Boag tries to pass.
Boag trying to move into half guard but instead Hirigushi has managed to sweep!

Hirigushi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Boag is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hirigushi wants to stand but Boag is controlling his posture from full guard.

Boag escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hirigushi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hirigushi wants to stand but Boag has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Boag is looking for a triangle but Hirigushi pushes his legs off easily.

Hirigushi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boag has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hirigushi has managed to get both his arms back between Boag's legs - danger averted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Boag is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hirigushi is aware though and is defending well.
Hirigushi wants to stand but Boag is controlling his posture from full guard.

Boag has his foot on Hirigushi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hirigushi works his way back into a safe position though.
Hirigushi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Boag is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hirigushi jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Boag throws a counter combo.
Boag misses with a looping right.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hirigushi scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Hirigushi misses with an uppercut.
It seemed like Boag was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Boag misses with a left hand
and Hirigushi counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hirigushi throws a hook to the side of Boag's head but Boag sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Boag swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Boag comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Boag has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
