Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yash Pavle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Helio Santos Jr! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pavle has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Santos Jr. Pavle closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Santos Jr quickly recovers to half guard. Santos Jr is trying to escape back to his feet but Pavle uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Pavle is trying to get an arm triangle but Santos Jr is defending well. Pavle is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Santos Jr's shoulder. That is not cool. Pavle cracks Santos Jr with a big right hand but Santos Jr just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Santos Jr is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pavle asserts his dominance and retains side control. Santos Jr is letting Pavle control him for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos Jr is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Pavle takes a little break here. Santos Jr wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Pavle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Pavle has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Pavle's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Santos Jr gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Pavle controlling from mount. Santos Jr takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Pavle lands a nice shot to the head. Pavle controlling the pace for now. Santos Jr is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Pavle has taken his back! Pavle is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pavle lands a shot to the head. Pavle scores with strikes from the back.
Santos Jr is trying to defend against the choke here but Pavle has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Pavle Tightens the hold and Santos Jr taps out furiously! Pavle displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
