PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Mccullough (ranked 24139 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Johnson (ranked 5576 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bryan Mccullough!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mccullough manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Johnson moves into the clinch.

Johnson jumps guard.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mccullough controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Mccullough avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mccullough slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mccullough slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Johnson is looking to clinch.
Mccullough is looking to counter with head kicks.
Johnson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mccullough manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Mccullough shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Johnson wants to sweep but no luck.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mccullough controls the pace.

Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mccullough is controlling him.
Mccullough stays in close to Johnson's body and controls the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mccullough doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mccullough manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Johnson, right into the meat.

Mccullough fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Mccullough persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mccullough perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Johnson wants to get back to full guard but Mccullough has passed into side control.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom here.
Mccullough just content to control the position.
Johnson looks to move to half guard but instead Mccullough has passed into mount! Damn!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Johnson wants to hold on but Mccullough pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson has a takedown stuffed.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson.
Johnson shoots in but Mccullough avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bryan Mccullough has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Johnson.
The fighters circle momentarily. Johnson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson shoots for a takedown but Mccullough saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Johnson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mccullough fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Johnson is working for takedown but Mccullough is calmly controlling the position for now.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Johnson trying to control the position but instead, Mccullough has worked for underhooks and has pushed Johnson into the cage.
Johnson misses with a short punch on the inside.
Mccullough stalling in the clinch.

The referee is keeping an eye on Mccullough - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Mccullough for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Mccullough fails to pull guard.
Johnson is looking for a takedown.
Mccullough stalling the fight.

Mccullough pulls guard.
Mccullough managing to control the position.
Mccullough wants to stand up but Johnson is controlling him.

Johnson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Mccullough is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mccullough holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mccullough takes the fight into the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Mccullough goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.
Mccullough takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like Bryan Mccullough has been cut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Johnson turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Mccullough really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A control attempt from Mccullough but he's now mounted!

Mccullough misses with a wild combination.
Johnson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mccullough.
Mccullough keeps the fight on the outside.
Johnson scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Johnson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mccullough defends well and Johnson ends up having to push Mccullough into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Johnson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Johnson lands in his opponent's guard.

Mccullough stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mccullough wants it to stay on the feet.
Bryan Mccullough has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Johnson.

Mccullough tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bryan Mccullough is winning the standup battle so far.
Mccullough throws out a leg kick but Johnson moves out of range and Mccullough only half commits.

Mccullough decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mccullough will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Johnson is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Bryan Mccullough overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Johnson wants to control but Mccullough is having none of it.
Johnson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mccullough lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Johnson hang on?
