PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Quinoa Smiff (ranked 2535 p4p, 274 weight class) and Alonzo Trotter (ranked 2102 p4p, 238 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Quinoa Smiff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alonzo Trotter!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trotter avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smiff displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Trotter has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Trotter clinches up with Smiff and pushes him back against the cage.

Smiff blocks an elbow strike from Trotter.

Trotter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Smiff closes the distance and pushes Trotter back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trotter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Trotter cracks Smiff with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Smiff pushes Trotter up against the cage in a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smiff is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Trotter.
Quinoa Smiff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smiff scores with a shot to the body.
Trotter loads up on a big right hand but Smiff slips the punch.
Trotter fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Smiff has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Smiff moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Trotter shoots in looking for a takedown but Smiff manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Trotter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Trotter misses with a hook. Smiff ducked under it nicely.

Trotter slips a jab and a cross from Smiff.

Smiff gets a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Trotter will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Smiff up against the cage.

Trotter has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Smiff regains guard immediately.
Smiff looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Trotter trying to control the position from guard on top but Smiff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Trotter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Smiff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smiff manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Trotter manages to get himself to full guard.

Trotter is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smiff's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smiff's back!

Trotter has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Trotter is landing with strikes. Smiff can't take much more of this.
Trotter is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
I really don't envy Smiff right now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Trotter connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Smiff to escape the position.
Smiff tries to roll but Trotter sticks to his back.
Smiff manages to reverse the position and now he's in Trotter's guard. Nice work there by Smiff.
Smiff pushes down on Trotter's leg and manages to get into half guard.

A close round but Alonzo Trotter will probably get the nod.

Trotter wants the takedown. Smiff is fighting it off but Trotter persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Smiff's guard against the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Trotter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smiff can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Trotter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Trotter lands a couple of digs.
Trotter stands up over Smiff, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Smiff is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Trotter is staying active underneath Smiff, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Trotter misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smiff seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Trotter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smiff slips a nice elbow through Trotter's hands, connecting with Trotter's forehead.

Smiff is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Alonzo Trotter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Smiff moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Smiff wants to clinch.

Trotter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Trotter in side control lands a decent elbow.

Trotter has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Smiff is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Trotter yanks on the arm and Smiff is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Trotter.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alonzo Trotter!

Quinoa Smiff was interviewed post fight and said 'He is on steroids!'.
