PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Henry The Crab (ranked 2253 p4p, 120 weight class) and Claudio Gadelha (ranked 6850 p4p, 260 weight class). Gadelha is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Melle Mel - Step Off. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry The Crab! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Claudio Gadelha! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gadelha misses with an uppercut
and The Crab counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Gadelha wants to clinch. The fight moves into the clinch position. Gadelha wants to take the fight to the mat but The Crab manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Gadelha tries to score a body lock takedown but The Crab shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Gadelha is looking to take this one to the mat. Henry The Crab has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Claudio Gadelha. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A short right from The Crab. A shot in the inside from The Crab. The Crab lands with a short head shot on the inside. Gadelha tries for a takedown but The Crab manages to get underhooks.

The Crab lands a right hand that snaps the head of Gadelha backwards. A nice left hand lands by The Crab.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Crab lands a left hand.
Gadelha lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The Crab scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Gadelha manages to mount him!
Gadelha moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, The Crab has worked his arm free - good work by The Crab!
The Crab manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! The Crab uses his free foot to push down on Gadelha's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gadelha. This has been an exciting period of action! Gadelha regains half guard. The Crab is looking to advance position but Gadelha won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gadelha wants to control but The Crab is keeping busy and won't allow it. Gadelha looking for submissions off his back. The Crab is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The Crab wants to stand up but Gadelha has a hold of him and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gadelha tries to roll over but The Crab keeps him under control. It looks like The Crab is going to stand back up.
The Crab prevents Gadelha from improving his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. The Crab tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gadelha. Gadelha wants to control but The Crab is keeping busy.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with The Crab in particular looking to stall. Gadelha is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The Crab looks to land a right hand but Gadelha moved out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Henry The Crab dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Gadelha fails with a takedown attempt. Horrible takedown attempt by Gadelha or perhaps it was just good defense by The Crab, which made it look bad. It looked like The Crab was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. The Crab dips to his left and cracks Gadelha with an uppercut! Gadelha ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Gadelha tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. The Crab stuffs the takedown. Henry The Crab has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Claudio Gadelha. Gadelha scores with a nice head shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gadelha tries to close the distance and clinch up but The Crab swats him away and circles back towards the center. The Crab throwing a counter right hand but Gadelha manages to avoid it. The Crab connects with a body shot that sends Gadelha's belly button to the back. Gadelha closes this distance looking for a takedown but The Crab circles away. The Crab is looking to counter with a shot to the body. The Crab scores with a one two! Gadelha had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gadelha connects with a nice looking jab.
The Crab connects with the punch. Gadelha tries to clinch up letting The Crab counter with a right hand. Claudio Gadelha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The Crab avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Henry The Crab is winning the standup battle so far. The Crab gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. The Crab lands a left hand.
Gadelha has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. The Crab avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. A head punch blocked on the inside by Gadelha. Gadelha has The Crab pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. The Crab manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for The Crab. Gadelha wants the takedown. The Crab is fighting it off but Gadelha persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in The Crab's guard against the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gadelha won't allow The Crab to sweep him here. The Crab wants to stand but Gadelha is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gadelha wants to control from the top but The Crab keeps moving. Gadelha might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control The Crab haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The Crab is trying to keep Gadelha in close.
Gadelha wants to pass the guard but The Crab is keeping the position. The Crab looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Henry The Crab overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gadelha trying to control the position from guard on top but The Crab is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gadelha clinches up with The Crab and pushes him back against the cage. A head punch on the inside from The Crab fails to land. The Crab gets through Gadelha's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Gadelha tries to score a body lock takedown but The Crab shows good agility there to stay on his feet. The Crab has a couple of punches blocked by Gadelha.
Gadelha can't find room to land a body shot as The Crab controls the action.
The Crab lands with a left to the head. Gadelha goes for a takedown in the clinch but The Crab prevents it.
The Crab scores with a shot to the side of Gadelha's head. The Crab softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Gadelha tries for a takedown but The Crab manages to get underhooks.
The Crab misses with the head strike.
The Crab works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Gadelha is breathing heavily. Gadelha wants a takedown but no success here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The Crab taking a breather. The Crab fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Henry The Crab has scored more points in the clinch so far. A short right from The Crab. An uppercut to the body lands inside from The Crab. Gadelha drops down looking for an ankle pick but The Crab pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gadelha scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Gadelha is pressing down on The Crab's thigh, looking to free his foot. The Crab is holding on for now. Gadelha wants to advance to full mount but The Crab doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. The Crab has Gadelha pulled in close to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Henry The Crab dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Gadelha tries to grapple but his opponent circles enabling The Crab to counter with a crisp jab. Gadelha pushes The Crab up against the cage in a clinch. Gadelha misses with a body punch.
The Crab softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. The Crab gets through Gadelha's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. The Crab is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gadelha can do to turn this around? Gadelha is looking for a takedown. A short right from The Crab on the inside. Gadelha changes levels and goes for a takedown here. The Crab fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Gadelha waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract The Crab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The Crab clobbers Gadelha with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. The Crab lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by The Crab. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The Crab bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Gadelha is rocked! The Crab cracks Gadelha with a hook to the temple - Gadelha is on wobbly legs here! The Crab swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Gadelha falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! The Crab wins by TKO!
