Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clarence Benson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Rio! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rio tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Benson is in Rio's guard. Rio looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Benson preventing the sweep. Benson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Benson lands a couple of elbows. Benson being controlled here momentarily. Benson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Benson throws a strike but Rio rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Rio controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Benson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benson wants to stand up but Rio is controlling him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rio pushes down on Benson's leg and manages to get into half guard. Rio trying to control from half guard but Benson is working away. Benson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Rio is looking to advance position but Benson won't allow it. Rio looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Rio is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rio takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Benson is trying to control Rio's posture. Rio takes advantage of the lull and advances to side control. He also appears to have an arm triangle here! Uh oh, big trouble for Benson! Rio is rotating here... this could be the end... Benson is out! Rio has ended this one emphatically! Great submission!
