Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ruslan Mstislav Volkov (ranked 4223 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Kowalevitz (ranked 24931 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ruslan Mstislav Volkov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Kowalevitz! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalevitz doesn't succeed with the takedown and Volkov counters with a one-two to the body. Kowalevitz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Volkov to score an easy takedown into full guard. Volkov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Volkov landing some decent shots from guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kowalevitz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Volkov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Volkov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Volkov tries to stand but Kowalevitz is controlling from the bottom. Volkov definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Volkov's corner is telling him to maintain position. Volkov lands a couple of digs. Volkov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Kowalevitz looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Volkov puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Kowalevitz trying to hold on to Volkov's head to control him but Volkov postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kowalevitz trying to hold on to Volkov's head to control him but Volkov postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Volkov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kowalevitz for as long as he can get away with.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kowalevitz fails with the takedown. Volkov scores with a takedown into Kowalevitz's guard. Kowalevitz throws his legs up looking for a submission but Volkov uses it to pass to side control.
Volkov working away. Volkov is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kowalevitz's shoulder. That is not cool. Volkov wants to stand but Kowalevitz has his arm trapped. Volkov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Volkov controlling the position. Kowalevitz is trying to control Volkov's posture but Volkov avoids it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kowalevitz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Volkov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Kowalevitz is being controlled here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Volkov shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kowalevitz is trying to defend but Volkov finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Ruslan Mstislav Volkov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kowalevitz holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Volkov is figuring out what he wants to do next. Kowalevitz looking for submissions off his back. Volkov slows the pace down in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Volkov frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Volkov looking to control and managing it successfully. Volkov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Kowalevitz wants to hold on but Volkov pushes him away. Volkov is landing with some decent strikes but Kowalevitz is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Kowalevitz is rocked! Volkov is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Kowalevitz goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Volkov!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Ruslan Mstislav Volkov! As Ruslan Mstislav Volkov got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: You were a good fighter laddy... But I've had stronger whiskey in me belly then them punches you be throwin.'.
