PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kenneth Maxwell (ranked 7630 p4p, 0 weight class) and Surly MacConnelly (ranked 5777 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenneth Maxwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Surly MacConnelly!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacConnelly wants to clinch up but Maxwell keeps it at a distance.
Maxwell was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
MacConnelly tries to clinch but Maxwell is having none of it.
Surly MacConnelly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
MacConnelly lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Kenneth Maxwell has been cut.
MacConnelly misses with a combination
and Maxwell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
MacConnelly falls off balance throwing a combination
and Maxwell counters with a slapping leg kick.

MacConnelly gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maxwell throwing strikes from guard but MacConnelly blocks nicely.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maxwell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Maxwell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Maxwell throws a big right hand that misses.

Maxwell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maxwell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Maxwell thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

MacConnelly has closed the distance and engaged Maxwell in a clinch.
Maxwell jumps guard but MacConnelly stands there with Maxwell around his waist. Maxwell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from MacConnelly.

Maxwell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. MacConnelly just stands there and leans against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Maxwell goes for a takedown attempt but MacConnelly pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenneth Maxwell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

MacConnelly throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Maxwell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. MacConnelly is in Maxwell's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacConnelly not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

MacConnelly stands up from guard. Let's bang!

MacConnelly circles away from the clinch attempt.

MacConnelly closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Maxwell's guard.
MacConnelly is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Maxwell wants to improve his position but instead MacConnelly has moved into half guard.
MacConnelly controlling the action here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. MacConnelly connects with a nice short shot to Maxwell's temple.
Maxwell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
MacConnelly is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
MacConnelly seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
MacConnelly is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Maxwell manages to get to full guard.
Maxwell throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

MacConnelly stands up from Maxwell's guard - MacConnelly perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Surly MacConnelly dominated that round.

Maxwell swats away the attempt to clinch by MacConnelly.
Maxwell avoids a kick to the body.
Maxwell appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

MacConnelly forces Maxwell back against the cage and clinches.
Maxwell tries to pull guard but MacConnelly won't allow it.
Maxwell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as MacConnelly walks away with a smile on his face. Maxwell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
MacConnelly tries to clinch but Maxwell moves away

so Maxwell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

MacConnelly uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Maxwell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
MacConnelly lands with a right that hurts Maxwell. Maxwell looks to clinch but MacConnelly throws a short knee that drops Maxwell. This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch and Knee). Surly MacConnelly!
